Vegan hikers walk 4,273 kilometers in 56 days just for the right to life of animals

In order to raise public awareness of the right to protect animal life and raise funds for animal rights protection organization Animal Charity, vegan hiker Josh Brown. Garrett completed an ultra-long-distance solo hike. The 59-day hike from Mexico to Canada covered a total of 4,273 kilometres, setting a new record in hiking history.

Garrett walked an average of 72.5 kilometers a day on this solo trip, battling the heat, loneliness and exhaustion every day. In an interview with The New York Times, Josh, 30, said, "Whenever I feel like giving up, my love for animals gives me strength and pushes me to keep going." When I encounter difficulties, the first thing I remind myself is not to forget the original purpose of this hike. As long as I stick to my original idea, all the difficulties will eventually pass. Looking back now, this hike was really a very difficult challenge for my body and mind. ”

Garrett has not been a vegetarian for a long time, only a year and a half. But from June 10 to August 8, he went vegetarian on the hike across the Pacific Emerald Trail, and no matter what problems he encountered, Garretin would never break his vegetarian diet with his own peanut butter, corn and nuts.

Garrett is not only a track and field coach, but also an instructor in exercise physiology at Santa Monica College. On Thanksgiving Day 2011, Garrett saw a video of the turkey being processed, and after witnessing the brutal killing, he decided to go vegetarian. Describing a passage in the video, Garrett said, "Some of the guys in the slaughterhouse process live turkeys directly from them, and they hang the live turkeys upside down on a conveyor belt that looks like sandbags. The cruelty of the scene made me sick to think about, and at that moment, my conscience told me that I had to make a change. ”

After watching some documentaries and videos that discuss vegetarian nutrition and health, Garrett is even more determined to go vegetarian, and he feels that for animals, a vegetarian diet may be the last straw that can save their lives at the moment. For those who give up halfway, a vegan diet may be too restrictive and difficult to maintain, but Garrett thinks that going from being a carnivorous to a vegetarian is actually quite easy for you, as long as you really have a moral standard and a philosophy in mind to guide you to go vegetarian, it is actually very easy to stick to it.

In fact, a vegan diet can provide all the nutrients that the body needs, and there is no need to eat any animal foods in the name of keeping our bodies healthy and strong.
