In April of the seventh year of Yuanfeng, before Su Shi arrived in Yunzhou, monk Yun'an dreamed that he and monk Cong from Su Zhe and monk Cong from Shengshou Temple went out of the city to welcome monk Wujie. When he woke up, he felt very strange, so he told Su Zhe about this dream. Before Su Zhe spoke, monk Cong came. Su Zhe said to him: I just talked about dreams with Yun'an. Do you want to talk about dreams together?Monk Cong said: I dreamed that the three of us went to welcome Monk Wujie together last night.Su Che stroked his hand and laughed: It's really strange that there are three people in the world who do the same dream!

Soon, Su Dongpo's letter arrived, saying that he had arrived in Fengxin now and would be able to meet everyone soon.The three of them were very happy and rushed to Jianshan Temple, twenty miles outside the city, to Su Dongpo.After Su Dongpo arrived, everyone talked about the three of them having the same dream. Su Dongpo thoughtfully said: When I was eight or nine years old, I also dreamed that my previous life was a monk, who was between the right side of Shaanxi.Also, when my mother was just pregnant, she dreamed that a monk came to ask for a sleeping place. The monk was handsome and blind in one eye.Yun'an exclaimed: The Five Jie Monk is from Shaanxi. He has blind eyes. He traveled in Gao'an in his later years and passed away in Dayu.It has been fifty years since everyone calculated this matter, and Su Dongpo is now exactly forty-nine years old.Judging from the dreams of similar time, place and many people, there is no objection to Su Dongpo being the reincarnation of the Five Rings Monk.

When Su Dongpo was in Hangzhou, he traveled to the Birthday Temple by the West Lake with his friend Chanliao. After looking around, Su Dongpo said to Chanliao: I have never been here in my life, but it seems that everything I see in front of me has experienced this personally. From here to the confession hall, there should be ninety-two steps.After asking for the number of people, it was indeed as he said.Su Dongpo said to Chanliao: I was a monk in the mountains in my previous life, and I was once in this temple.Since then, Su Dongpo often went to this Buddhist temple to linger and take a break.

Around the early years of Yuanyou, Su Dongpo and Huang Tingjian went to see an old man. As soon as the old man met, he said that Su Dongpo's previous life was the Five Precepts Monk, and Huang Tingjian's previous life was a woman.Su Dongpo nodded without saying a word, but Huang Tingjian didn't believe it at all. The old man said to him: When you arrive in Fuling, someone will tell you.Huang Tingjian believed that Fuling was a place that only demoted officials could go to, so how could he go?Later, he was indeed demoted to Fuling. He dreamed several times that a woman asked a dream to tell him about his previous life, and then he had to believe what the old man said before.

The previous life of Monk Foyin

Who is these monks of Five Precepts?It is said that he was blind and a senior brother named Mingwu. Because of a difference in thought, the Five Precepts had a miserable relationship with the woman Honglian and violated the precept of adultery. As a result, the matter was seen through by the monk Mingwu who already had supernatural powers. The Five Precepts were ashamed and reincarnated.Mingxiu has already foresaw the possibility of slandering Buddha and monks in the next life, so that he may never have a chance to stand out. So he quickly sat down and followed the Five Precepts and left.In this life, the Five Precepts were reincarnated as Su Dongpo, and Mingwu was Su Dongpo's good friend, Monk Foyin.At the beginning, Su Dongpo really didn't believe in Buddhism and was obsessed with fame and fortune, but Foyin never left him and tried his best to persuade him to enlighten him.With his own personal experiences and Foyin's continuous persuasion and enlightenment, Su Dongpo finally realized that he not only believed in the theory of cause and effect, but also believed in Buddhism and practiced in great detail.

When Su Dongpo passed away, he said to his three sons who were guarding the bedside: I have never done anything bad in my life, I believe I will not fall into hell. Don’t be too sad.He also warned people that the Buddha's world really exists, but regretted that he had recovered and was powerless. He said: It seems that there is a Western Paradise, but I can no longer use my strength now.

Su Dongpo's back is Yuan Hongdao

In Yuan Hongdao's life, his practice became stable and mature.We see that he is extremely talented, but he lacks the sharpness of Su Dongpo's life, which also makes him less rich and vivid than Su Dongpo's legend. This is the state that those who seek Tao should have: calm practice and devote themselves to Taoism.However, we can still see the photocopy of Su Dongpo from Yuan Hongdao: he is fond of Zen and loves writing, and has extraordinary talent.At that time, the three Yuans were in opposition to the three Su of the Northern Song Dynasty.

From this we can see that the habits of ordinary people are still stubborn and difficult to change in their practice.As people often say, the country is easy to change and its nature is difficult to change.

In Yuan Hongdao's era, Zen was prevalent. He was able to transform from Zen into purity, proving that he was a wise practitioner;Because chanting Buddha's name was despised by many practitioners at that time, this was not only a misunderstanding of the principles of Pure Land, but also a result of the Dharma conditions.

Yuan Hongdao shows this for us.All his sects know about it, and we can clearly see from the Western Combination Theory he wrote: he has extensive citations and extensive knowledge;He is well aware of all kinds of Buddhist scriptures and scriptures, or the principles of various sects;He explained it very clearly that he taught the Pure Land during his generation and that the Pure Land should be the foundation of Buddhism.This work was later highly praised by Master Lianchi, and was included in the "Ten Essences of Pure Land" by Master Ouyi, and became a masterpiece in the Pure Land Treatise.

A younger brother Yuan Zongdao gave a detailed description in the Western Paradise: When Yuan Hongdao met his younger brother, he also reminded him: keep the precepts and recite the Buddha's name.

However, such a practitioner with both wisdom and cultivation is ultimately reborn in the border city of Pure Land of Pure Land!
