The Buddhist method of being a human being: to live, let nature take its course

To live, let nature take its course

If you can follow him everything, you are a free person in the world.

Zen language

Lao Tzu once said: Man follows the earth, the earth follows the sky, the heaven follows the Tao, and the Tao follows nature. The greatest law in the world is the law of nature, and the law of man is actually the smallest. Therefore, going with the flow is the way of human survival.

Zen Master Yaoshan Weiyan was a famous Zen master in the Tang Dynasty, and like many eminent monks, he was good at starting from the small things in front of him and inspiring his disciples' understanding.

Once, Zen Master Weiyan took his two disciples, Daowu and Yunyan, down the mountain, and on the way, Zen Master Weiyan pointed to a dead tree in the forest and asked: Do you think it is better to wither or flourish?

Dao Wu replied without thinking: Of course it is good to be lush.

Zen Master Weiyan shook his head and said: Prosperity will eventually disappear.

At this point, the answer seemed to be clear, so Yun Yan immediately changed his mouth and said: I think it's better to wither.

Who knew that Zen Master Weiyan still shook his head: withering will eventually become a thing of the past.

At this time, a little novice happened to come from the opposite side, and Zen Master Weiyan asked him the same question, and the clever little novice replied unhurriedly: Let it wither if it withers, and let it flourish if it is lush.

Zen Master Weiyan nodded in approval and said: The little novice is right, everything in the world should be left to nature and not be attached, this is the attitude of practice.

The withering and prosperity of all things has its own laws, flowers will not bloom because people love them, and the moon will not be lacking because people are dissatisfied. The laws of nature are vast and cruel, whether they prosper or wither, they will eventually disappear with the passage of time. The form mentioned in the Heart Sutra is emptiness, and emptiness is form, which is the truth.

In life, beauty, power, wealth, and reputation are just fleeting clouds, and people should learn to live with the flow, and the more they deliberately pursue, they will be burdened by it and lose themselves.

I once read a story in the newspaper: an old gentleman came backstage and told her after listening to a female singer's singing: You have a talent for singing, but if you continue as it is now, you will not succeed.

The female singer was surprised and said: Why?

The old gentleman said: To tell you the truth, you have buck teeth, so you keep trying to hide it when you sing, and your mouth can't help but close, and you are very unnatural on stage. If you believe me, then I tell you that there is nothing wrong with buck teeth, on the contrary, it is exactly what you are. So, don't worry about it, just sing well, and you will sing the most beautiful voice.

Because of the guidance of this elder, the female singer was reborn in singing and eventually became a successful singer.

Buck teeth are innate, not your fault, so why dwell on it and let it affect your performance on stage?

Life is actually like a stage, maybe you are born with a stupid look, that is your true nature, why worry; Maybe you are born with an affectionate and sentimental appearance, but never go against your heart to show your strong tree has the style of a big tree, and the grass has the cuteness of a small grass. The pheasant is dressed in peacock feathers, not a phoenix; The duckling learns the voice of a swan, and it will never become the king of singers.

In any case, you don't have to give people a wink to shake their beliefs and try to change yourself. There are no two exactly alike people in the world, the Creator has given everyone a unique nature, all you have to do is go with the flow and bring your nature to the extreme.

People must live with the flow of nature, according to different abilities and interests, to achieve different successes and achievements. In our society, there is a stereotyped misconception that success must be what it is, happiness must be how, and it seems that only those who meet a certain standard are considered successful and happy. In fact, life is not a competition, and happiness and success do not need an end. As long as you pay a little attention, you will find that many people who are very successful in their careers may not have a happy life; People who live happily and comfortably in life may not have a huge career. As long as you can recognize this, you will be sure of the fact that true success and happiness are the ability to accept and affirm yourself, and let everything take its course.
