Buddhist story: Common people: Everything on the earth is useful

Everything on the earth is useful

A long time ago, a wise and intelligent little novice monk lived in a temple, and a proud little novice monk.

This proud little novice monk often thinks that his talent is superior to others, and no one else can compare to him, or even a useless person. The smart little novice monk wanted him to understand the principle that everything on the earth was useful, so he shouted loudly while he was walking while holding a book in his hand and reading it: Stop! The proud little novice monk was shocked and really stopped.

The smart little novice monk held a hoe and said: You think that other people and things are of no use except you; so the place you are standing now is something you can use, and the others are useless.

After saying that, he dug up the land around him, and in the end he was the small pile of soil left. The proud little novice monk fell down because of his unsteady standing. He was very angry and said dissatisfied: I still think everything is useless.

One day, the farmer in the village sowed the seeds, but was eaten up by the birds. The farmer had no skills, so he asked the smart little novice monk to find a way to drive the birds away. After thinking about it, he made a water gun with bamboo, which could make a loud noise to scare the birds away, but soon the birds flew back in groups, and the farmers had to make repeated sounds to scare the birds away.

The proud little novice monk smiled beside him and said: Everyone says that you are very smart and famous. So that's it, nothing is so great.

Everyone asked him: So what better way do you have?

He looked at the woods next to him and said: It's simple! Because there are many bird nests built in this woods, there are so many birds. Anyway, it's useless to keep these trees, so just pull them out.Everyone thought this was the root cause, so they shoveled the woods to the roots.

Soon after, the typhoon came, and the village farmhouses were in danger by the wind and rain. In the past, there was protection of wind and forests, so no matter how strong the wind and rain were, the villagers had to support and resist with wooden pillars and sandbags. At this time, the proud little novice monk realized that he had caused trouble.

After the storm, he said with shame: It turns out that wisdom is not self-righteous, but does not hinder everything and respect everything; I was wrong in the past, and I should learn to respect others and all things on the earth.

Indeed, everything has its uses, and everyone has his own strengths, but only smart people will think that some things are useless at all; those with true wisdom know that they must always respect all living things and their good abilities, because everything on the earth is useful.
