The precepts and the four laws are the real teachers and good teachers

Buddha and life 2023-06-20

On the road to practice in this world, our only teacher is Shakyamuni Buddha, who is our fundamental teacher and the ultimate teacher.

Before Nirvana, the Buddha told us that we should take precepts as our teacher, because only Buddha can formulate precepts. Taking precepts as our teacher means taking Buddha as our teacher. Therefore, when there is no Buddha living in the world, the precepts are teachers and the principles of practice.

At the same time, the Buddha also tells us the general principle of practice, which is the four laws. The Buddha talked about this principle of practice in many scriptures such as the "Mahasattva Sutra" and the "Nirvana Sutra".Whether it is practice or doing things, you cannot violate the principles of your own, otherwise problems will arise.

The Buddha told us that after his Nirvana, the disciples should practice according to the Dharma rather than others. That is to say, when we study Buddhism, we must follow the Buddha's truth, and we must not follow a certain person, and we must not engage in personality worship. No matter who he says, as long as what he says is in line with the Buddha's Dharma, we can do it accordingly. But no matter how famous this person is, as long as what he says and does is different from the Buddha's Dharma and precepts, we cannot follow it.Because people have their own knowledge and insights, the Buddha's Dharma is the truth.

The Buddha told us that practice should be based on the ultimate meaning, not on the ultimate meaning. The Buddha's teachings should be said randomly, because the roots of sentient beings are different. Some sentient beings do not want to understand the ultimate truth, do not want to escape from birth and death, but only want to seek some happiness in this life, or want to be born in the wealth of humans and heavenly beings in the next life. In order to satisfy these sentient beings with poor good roots, the Buddha talks about some good deeds in humans and heavenly beings, and cannot be perfected by birth and death. Therefore, the scriptures spoken by the Buddha also have a difference between the meaning and the indefinite meaning. But the Buddha finally told us: we should practice according to the principles of the ultimate meaning, and not learn according to the inability to the ultimate meaning, otherwise the suffering will not be over.

The Buddha also told us that practice should be based on meaning rather than words, that is, practice should be based on the meaning and principles in the language, and to understand the true meaning of the Buddha through words, rather than clinging to the superficial meaning of the language. It’s like pointing at the moon to show you. We don’t want to look at the hands, we are asking you to look at the moon.We should understand the real meaning from language and fonts, not always stay in language and fonts.

The Buddha also said that we should rely on wisdom but not on consciousness in our practice. That is, we should follow the great wisdom of the Buddha, and not the emotional consciousness of ordinary people. We must follow the precepts and principles taught by the Buddha, and we must not follow the secular opinions of human nature and bad customs and habits.

This is the principle of practice that the Buddha specifically explained at the end of his life, which illustrates the importance of the precepts and the four laws. This is an important fundamental condition to ensure our liberation. If we cannot study and practice according to this, there will be no guarantee for becoming a Buddha. The three evil paths are our future lives. The Buddha has clearly told us who is the real teacher and who is the real good teacher in an era when there is no Buddha living in the world.Only the precepts and the Four Laws are true teachers and good teachers! We will never go the wrong way by practicing accordingly!Because the precepts are made by the Buddha, the four Dharmas are the only practice principles that the Buddha explained at the end of his life!Practice this is to practice according to the Buddha, and practicing according to this is to practice according to the Buddha's existence.
