Master Da'an replied:First of all, you can take the precepts, which shows that you have a heart for Taoism.What is the purpose of taking the precepts?The original intention of the Buddha to make precepts is to make precepts for the Tao, and to seek to realize the Bodhi Buddha's path.The types of precepts include those of lay Buddhists and those of the five monks.Whether it is the precepts of becoming a monk or a layman, they have one common characteristic, that is, they are provided for our troubles.Troubles are diseases, and precepts are medicine.Our hearts are like bison, like a fierce horse, like a mad elephant. Without constraints, it will run around and trample on crops. Therefore, the ring is a rein. The bison tied the nose with the reins and pulled it over in time when it was about to run.Therefore, this precept is to cure our three poisons of greed, anger, and ignorance.Killing, stealing, adultery, lying and drinking is the most serious trouble and is the one that covers the Buddha's nature the most. Therefore, you must use the reins of the precept to block the psychological tendency of killing, stealing, adultery, lying and lying.

So we must take the precepts.Some people say that when I study Buddhism, I only receive the Three Refuges and not the Five Precepts, but I keep the Five Precepts by myself. Can I do it?Although it is better to be upheld than not, if you really want to practice, you must go through the rituals of taking precepts and let a monk prove it in front of the Buddha, and there is also a set of rituals for teaching and receiving, which is the Karma Dharma.Through the teaching of rituals and rules, you can develop a function of stopping evil and preventing mistakes in your heart. This function is called the body of non-action precepts.After you obtain this kind of precept body, when the state of temptation appears, such as wealth, sex, fame, food and sleep, the precept body will play a role. He will immediately remind himself of this state that the precepts he received will arise from the precepts, which will produce a kind of countermeasure power that can make us remain unmoved in the face of temptation, and the seven branches of the body and mouth do not violate the precepts.After taking the precepts, you are walking on thin ice. This is a good phenomenon. You must strengthen your awareness of keeping precepts and raise your precepts to a higher level than life.Why?The false body that our karma inspires in this period will sooner or later die. We cannot break the precepts for the comfort and enjoyment of this body, because breaking the precepts is not the body, but the Dharma body and wisdom life.If these four fundamental precepts of killing, stealing, adultery, and lying, there is no doubt that the lower three evil paths will be. Once you fall into the three evil paths, you will be unable to recover.

Therefore, for a true practitioner, it is better to keep the precepts and die than to break them, and to elevate the precepts to the level that transcends the value of life and sacrifices one's life for righteousness and kills one's body to seek benevolence.If this body and the precepts we receive are in a very conflicting state and cannot have both fish and bear's paws, we must take benevolence and precepts, rather than illusory bodies.This value judgment can strengthen our awareness of keeping precepts and enable ourselves to overwhelm the power of the demon with powerful power in the process of confronting millions of demon troops.Don’t learn to be harmonious!Keeping precepts is sometimes very rigorous and concise, and you cannot deceive at all.Because in the Buddha's precepts, whether you have violated the precepts should not only be judged from your behavior, but also from your motivation, which is your thoughts.If you have a thought of killing, even if you do not take action, this thought of killing will have cause and effect. If you add behavior, it will constitute the condition for committing the fundamental sin.

Therefore, keeping the precepts rigorously. Don’t say that I have kept the five precepts, or even for drinking: Ah, it doesn’t matter. If I don’t drink, I can drink it. It doesn’t matter if I drink some for health and longevity, but it doesn’t matter if I drink some alcohol during social events.These so-called harmony is not allowed for those who truly practice Taoism.We must listen to the Buddha's words: wine is a medicine for ignorance, wine is poisonous water. It is not allowed to put it in your mouth even if you dip a little grass with a little wine, not to mention that you have to drink one more cup, how many more cups do you have to drink?Don't learn this harmony.If you regard studying Buddhism as a joke and playing with life, then you will be harmonious and you will be harmonious to the three evil realms.If you cannot uphold it, don’t accept it. If you accept it, you must uphold it. We must recognize all these clearly, especially for a practitioner of chanting Buddha’s name, you must keep the precepts.Only by keeping precepts and reciting the Buddha's name can we communicate with Amitabha Buddha and achieve pure karma.
