Eighteen wishes (Wish of rebirth by reciting the Buddha's name )Achievement 5

Speaker: Master Chunxiang (Speech recordings )The Buddha said that the Amitabha Sutra is the true teaching

《The Verse of True Faith and Recitation of Buddha's Stories says: "The reason why Tathagata is born is the only way to talk about the sea of Amitabha's original vows."The Buddha's Sutra of Amitabha Sutra is the original sutra of the Tathagata's birth. It brings true happiness to all living beings in the three realms and gives us the most real benefits.

Buddhism is divided into teachings and proofs, and has the inheritance of teachings and proofs. The three vehicles and twelve sutras taught by Shakyamuni Buddha belong to the teachings; We follow the teachings and obtain the fruit of enlightenment. The method of achieving the fruit is called the method of enlightenment. The Buddha's Sutra of Amitabha Sutra is the most true teaching in all Buddhist scriptures. Choosing to study the Buddha's Sutra of Amitabha Sutra is the most correct and easiest to gain benefits. The end of this sutra says, "In the present world, the sutras and paths will be destroyed. I will leave this sutra with compassion and compassion, and I will only leave this sutra for a hundred years." This means that in the future, all sutras and methods will be destroyed, but the Buddha will use the power of compassion to keep this sutra, and the last Buddhist sutra is this sutra. This sutra is most destined to be ordinary people in the last days, and can give us real benefits and obtain true fruits. It is the most true Buddhism.

Listen to the true teachings and enter the true practice

Among the three Pure Land sutras, the "Amitabha Sutra" says that Amitabha Buddha has become a Buddha for ten kalpas, and the Pure Land is solemn and extraordinary. It advises us to make a vow, but does not say how to establish the Pure Land, and there is a result but no cause. The "Amitabha Sutra" says that the lotus is achieved by the forty-eight vows of this Dharmazang monk, and there is no specific forty-eight vows. Only the "The Buddha's Sutra on the Amitabha Sutra" fully explains the cause and effect of Amitabha Buddha's original vows. The achievement text is "hearing his name". If you want to fully hear his name, only by listening to the "Amitabha Sutra" can you enter the true practice of the original vow and obtain the true faith of the name dedication. The faith that is achieved through life is connected with the Buddhahood of the past generation. If you have true faith, you must have true Buddhahood of the past generation. The achievement text is "faith and joy, even a thought", which is the thought that is determined to attain enlightenment, just like the thought of Zen enlightenment. After this thought, "faith is achieved, and one mind is not confused."

Eighteen Vows are held forty-eight Vows, and the six true Vows are collected

In all the "Amitabha Sutra" of the Buddha, the 18th vow is the core, and the achievement text is the core and the most essential part. The eighteen vows have always held forty-eight vows, and briefly explained it, the six true vows are included. The wish text: "If I become a Buddha", if I become a Buddha, then what kind of Buddha is Amitabha Buddha? It's infinitely bright (Twelve wishes ),Unlimited lifespan (Thirteen wishes )There are two wishes here.Next, the "sentient beings in the ten directions" will have three minds of sincerity, faith and happiness, and desire to be born, which are unique to the eighteen vows.Next, the "even ten recitations" include seventeen vows, and the fulfillment of faith is the same as the Buddhas in the ten directions to praise Amitabha Buddha, which is the true vow;Even ten thoughts are used to absorb the seventeen vows into the eighteen vows.Next, "If you are not reborn, you will not attain enlightenment" includes eleven vows and twenty-two vows. (Dedicate to each other )The enlightenment of the right concentration of concentration was achieved, and those who promoted the Pure Land teachings in the past called these six vows included in the eighteen vows as true and six vows.

Achievement text corresponds to the wish text

The eighteen vows are in correspondence with the vows. The vows are “sentient beings in all directions” and the vows are corresponding to the vows. All sentient beings have a wide range, from Buddhas and Bodhisattvas to the lowest level of hell, they can absorb all sentient beings. However, usually all beings refer to the sentient beings who circulate the twenty-five kinds of beings in the three realms. All sentient beings in the ten directions mainly refer to ordinary people, especially those who are evil, and even those who are in trouble or slander the Dharma. They are all sentient beings who are in a precautionary way.

The "hearing his name" in the achievement text corresponds to the "assuming that I can attain Buddhahood and even ten times of reciting" in the wish text. The name is Namo Amitabha Buddha, Amitabha Buddha's name is the twelve lights, and other twelve lights."Name" is originally one. If you explain it separately, hearing "Name" mainly involves hearing the Buddha's wishes, and "Name" is infinite light. The order described in the "Buddha's Sutra on the Amitabha Sutra" is, "Each treasure, hundreds of thousands of billions of leaves. Its brilliance and infinite colors."Then" one after another, thirty-six hundred billion lights were produced in the middle of China.Thirty-six hundred and ten billion Buddhas emerge from each light, and their bodies are purple and gold in color, and their appearance is unique. One Buddha, one by one, emits hundreds of thousands of lights, and teaches subtle Dharmas to all directions."The Buddhas of the Ten Directions are transformed into the light of the lotus. The Buddhas of the Ten Directions emit light and preach the subtle Dharma, praising and praising Amitabha Buddha. The focus here includes the twelve vows and seventeen vows, and you can also absorb the twelve vows into the seventeen vows.Hearing his name is through the seventeen vows, and the three Pure Land sutras are all merits achieved by the seventeen vows. The seventeen vows achieve the original cause and effect of all Buddhas in the ten directions to praise Amitabha Buddha. We can hear it through the light and praise of all Buddhas. (Namo Amitabha )Name.

“Faith and joy” (Achievement )It is the original wish and three hearts (Because of your wish, you will be sincere, believe in joy, and want to be reborn )The three minds are one mind.In the Dharma body, the three minds are discussed in the text of wishes, and the three minds are discussed in the text of accomplishment, and the one mind is mentioned in the text of opportunity; The focus of ordinary people is faith, and faith controls the three minds.Faith comes from the dedication of the name and is produced from Namo Amitabha, so it is called Other Power of Faith.

“Dedicate sincerely to that country”.Master Shinluan explained that "sincerity of dedication" is a dedication of the Dharma body, not a dedication of you. After you gain faith, you will achieve the unity of mechanism and Dharma. The Dharma body of the name originally has the "respectful dedication to the heart, wishing to be born in that country". This is the Buddha's dedication, not your dedication.Gude explained: "Sincere dedication" has the function of connecting the past and the future in words. The name is the sincere heart, and the sincere heart is the true and pure heart, which you do not have. Therefore, when the Dharmazang Bodhisattva was in the causal stage, he saw that he had no sincerity, so he achieved the sincerity and dedication to you through his name. The name is the true heart. Although you do not have the true heart, you gain the true heart by "hearing the name", and then faith is the true heart.

This is different from the dedication you usually make.Mahayana Buddhism attaches great importance to dedication, and you must dedicate any practice you do.If you keep the five precepts, you must dedicate the good merits of the precepts to Bodhi.Dedication is very important, it is to determine the target direction and concentrate on using merits.Whether you do your homework normally or listen to the Dharma and receive teachings, Mahayana Buddhism will make you dedicate merits, usually dedicating merits to Bodhi and Pure Land. However, when everyone dedicates their merits, they do not follow Buddhism, but have their own ideas. Some people dedicate to themselves and their families to be healthy, some dedicate to their prosperity, etc. The dedication comes from your wishes and ultimately dedicate to your own wishes. Therefore, your dedication is completely different from that of the Achievement Text. The "sincerity of dedication" of the Achievement Text is the dedication of Amitabha Buddha, not your dedication. If you confront the Buddha with you, Amitabha Buddha is the giver of dedication, and you are the recipient. The name is the convenient dedication chosen by Amitabha Buddha. You can show your faith through the name. The achievement of faith is the same as the "name". The name will naturally have the Buddha's sincere dedication. After you gain confidence (Show confidence ),You will naturally devote your merits sincerely and have the heart to be truly wished to be reborn in the Pure Land.

The difference between the eighteen vows and twenty vows of chanting Buddha's name

If you don’t have confidence, you still need to make a dedication. So Twenty Wishes (If I become a Buddha, sentient beings in all directions will hear my name, recite my country, cultivate all virtues, and dedicate them sincerely to our hearts. If you want to be born in our country, but fail to achieve success, you will not attain enlightenment. )In the middle, you do not have true faith. You recite the Buddha's name to be reborn, so you must dedicate your merits sincerely. This is the power of the Buddha. When chanting the Buddha's name with twenty vows, you believe that the Buddha chose to recite the Buddha's name, and believe that chanting the Buddha's name will lead to rebirth, but your faith is in "chanting" and will not be separated from your own strength.Do not leave one's own strength and regard the name as your good root. Reciting the Buddha's name is to cultivate merit, but you recite the Buddha's name for any other purpose, but to be reborn. The eighteen vows of the Buddha's name are to have achieved faith and be reborn. In faith, chant the Buddha's name and accept the Buddha's dedication, and at the same time feel the incredible merit of the name and enter the right concentration.Compared with the eighteen vows, the twenty vows are still in dedication, and they are unstable gatherings and have not entered the right gatherings.

Faith and name are the same, and the binary causes conflict

The subtle part of the Pure Land method lies in "chanting Buddha's name". Now some monks who promote Pure Land particularly advocate "chanting" and chanting Buddha's name. Is this right? This is definitely true. When we practice the Pure Land Method, I have always advised everyone to chant the Buddha's name.Judging from the eighteen vows, there are two aspects: one is the three minds, the sincere faith and joy to be born in our country, and the other is the tenth recitation. It is the method of dedication chosen by the Buddha. In Amitabha’s vow to save sentient beings, two main contents are chanting the Buddha’s name. (Name )And faith, name and faith are the same. However, ordinary people are not separated from the binary distinction. If there is a binary distinction, conflict will arise. When you separate your name and faith, you will inevitably fall aside. So at this time someone had a doubt, where is the true original wish of the three minds and ten recitations? In the wish text, chant the Buddha's name (Even ten thoughts )It is the original wish, the three hearts (True faith and joy to be reborn )It's also the original wish. But if you do not have the faith to achieve the unity of mechanism and method, your name (Recite the Buddha's name )It is divided into two parts and conflicts exist. Some people pay special attention to chanting Buddha's name and chanting. They are reborn according to the lower level of the Contemplation Sutra. When a person who violates the five evil deeds and ten evil encounters a good teacher at the death, he will teach him to chant Namo Amitabha Buddha with his hands in his heart. He will be reborn after ten times.Comparing the "Amitabha Sutra" with the "Great Sutra", the conclusion was that even ten recitations refer to oral chanting, and they believed that chanting Buddha's name was oral chanting. Some people pay special attention to faith, and even if they do not have faith, they cannot recite the Buddha's name, because without faith, they are not real and they are unwilling to recite the Buddha's name. This is a paranoid chanting Buddha's name and faith, and the opposition between faith and faith is the root cause of the conflict.

No need to have faith in the name, faith must have a name

Some propagandists cannot understand the mutual convergence between chanting Buddha's name and faith, and their sequence, and their paranoidness in explanation, which causes confusion or paranoidness among beginners.OK is the name (Namo Amitabha ),The great deed is the seventeen vows. After Amitabha Buddha becomes a Buddha, all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas in the ten directions will praise Amitabha Buddha. When chanting the name of Amitabha Buddha, chanting means praise and praise. Chanting the Buddha's name means verbal chanting. But speaking is based on the Buddha's wishes, and the focus is on "speaking" not on "speaking". "speaking" means faith, so even speaking is not separated from faith. But those who say verbs may not have faith. Only by gaining faith is “rebirth”. You can gain faith and be reborn, which is the future; It is the present time that you have gained faith and “rebirth”.There are differences between whether the person who calls the name has "faith" or not. If the interpreter does not pay attention to the expression, the listener will easily have doubts and misunderstandings. From the original vow, cause and effect, or from the side of the Dharma body, that is, the Buddha, to be called the name and to be faithful, and to be called the name and to be reborn, according to the original vow of the Buddha; From the perspective of the original wish to achieve, that is, the opportunity to receive, the name does not necessarily mean that there is faith, but faith is full of name. Therefore, the achievement of the Pure Land Dharma is that from teaching to practice and then to faith, practice means name.If you are in the Buddha, chanting your name means you will be able to gain faith and enter the seventeen vows;If sentient beings believe in and call them, they will enter the eighteenth vow, so the seventeenth and eighteenth chapters are non-dual.Therefore, it is necessary to chant the Buddha's name before you have no faith.

Some time ago, a lay Buddhist came to me and he specifically mentioned chanting Buddha's name by speaking. This is nothing wrong with this. But when I asked him, “Have you passed away?"He was ambiguous and started saying yes, but asked again but was unsure.I said, "If you are reborn, you are reborn. If you don't have it, you have nothing. This must be confirmed."He was very disgusted with this and felt that I said that he could not be reborn by chanting Buddha's name.I give this example to tell you that the achievement of Dharma body name and faith achievement are both unique and two, two but non-two. You should pay attention to whether you are reborn or not.

If that name is

Name is the achievement of Dharma body. The "Sutra of Rebirth" says, "The name of the Tathagata is like the light and wise appearance of the Tathagata, like that name, and the name, so that it is necessary to practice accordingly."The Buddha's name achieved by faith is the unity of faith, and true faith is the real faith, but the Buddha's name with self-power is not the real practice.Reciting Buddha's name on the mouth is the practice chosen by the Buddha's vows. There is the Buddha's dedication in the practice, but is your chanting Buddha's name corresponding to this? The three vows of seventeen, eighteen, and twenty are all chanting Buddha’s name. The seventeenth is chanting Buddha’s name to practice and conquer faith;Eighteenth, sentient beings chant Buddha’s name with other strength to use faith to control their actions;Twenty is the chanting of Buddha's name with self-power in other power, and the three wishes are subtle. The achievement of rebirth is through hearing his name, first of which is the Buddha's practice of the seventeen vows.Master Shandao explained to the six-character name that Namo is a refuge, and it is also the intention of dedicating and making a vow.Master Shandao’s name is completely based on the achievement text. Faith means achieving the “return to life” of sentient beings, dedicating the blessings and making vows to dedicate the Dharma body. The saying of Amitabha Buddha is his practice. The practice of Pure Land Dharma belongs to the Buddha, so it is called "other power".Your dedication of the name belongs to Amitabha Buddha. It is not that you are doing it, but that Amitabha Buddha is doing it.This sentence is very important to you, not just the truth. You must make a vow to be reborn by understanding the "teaching" and obtain the dedication of Amitabha Buddha through "aching".

People who especially advocate oral pronunciation believe that oral pronunciation is the original vow of the Buddha. If they promote faith, fewer people will be reborn. Is this statement reasonable?I think it is unreasonable. Faith and chanting Buddha's name are the combination of faith and practice. Faith is "that is to be reborn", and the integration of mechanism and method is at a higher level in the sequence.Of course, there are also some biases in advocating faith and opposing self-reliance.Faith is the true cause of great Nirvana. The result of the Pure Land Dharma lies in faith. Faith is achieved. Faith will lead to rebirth. (Lifetime career success ),Becoming a Buddha is determined.

Confidence and chant Buddha's Dharma body naturally dedicate

“"Sincerely dedicate merit" is the natural dedication of the Dharma body, so should you dedicate merits when you recite the Buddha's name?Different faith and aspirations mean different dedication. There are many ways to recite the Buddha's name (Silently recite, visualize, observe the image, reality, and name ),The intentions of each person who recites the Buddha's name vary greatly. From both sides of the mechanism and method, you do not need to dedicate your merits, because in the name, you are the one who accepts the merits.Reciting the Buddha's name is not about practicing merits and dedicating to the Pure Land, but about the Buddha's achievements and dedicating merits to you. In the name, "Namo" means dedicating merits to you first. From the perspective of the moment, if you recite Namo Amitabha Buddha, although the true meaning of the name is the Buddha's merits dedicated to you, allowing you to be reborn in the Pure Land. But before you have no faith, you have not truly understood the true meaning of the name and cannot truly believe in and receive the name. If you recite the Buddha's name, you need to dedicate it. In this way, you will enter the 20th vow, "Hear the name and cultivate the root of all virtues", and dedicate it sincerely, and dedication is particularly important.

Therefore, you should first make a wish to be reborn, but some people are even unwilling to be reborn by chanting the Buddha's name. Of course, you will not dedicate the merits of chanting the Buddha's name to the Pure Land. The achievement text "Sincerely dedicate merits, wishing to be born in that country" means that you have the wish to be born in Amitabha Buddha's land of retribution. Your wish is the Buddha's wish, and the Buddha's wish is your wish. When you arrive here, faith, wish and practice become one. Before you achieve true faith, your faith, vows, and dedication are all yours, and you are in a state of self-reliance.When you find that you only have sin, birth and death, greed, anger, ignorance, ignorance and darkness because you feel that there is no hope, and what you are waiting for is endless reincarnation, and hell is the ultimate destination. And all this reaches its peak at the extreme moment of receiving his power; At that time, all the good and merits were brought to the Buddha, the power of the name of light appeared in your body and mind, and faith was revealed from this. Therefore, the Pure Land Dharma can truly manifest itself from self-power to other power, that is, when the self-power is used to the extreme, it can only be truly manifested in giving up oneself and returning to others.

There is "sincere dedication" in faith, which should be very clear. If you gain faith, after you complete the thought of taking refuge, you will enter the mind of "making vows and dedication" and have a true vow to the Pure Land. But whether it is strong or not, everyone still has different feelings. If you do not achieve faith and say you are willing to be reborn in the Pure Land and dedicate everything to the Pure Land, that is not within your ability. Therefore, I sincerely dedicate my merits to the wish to be born in that country, which means to connect the past and the future, and is included in my faith.

Those who believe in the five realms and eight ways will definitely gain ten benefits in this life.

Achievement: "You will be reborn, and you will not regress."By hearing his name, your faith achieves instantly.Master Shinluan’s "Teachings and Actions" is explained in this sutra, saying that faith achieves "crossing the five evil realms". At this time, you have decided to escape from the cycle of reincarnation and come out of the five evils and eight difficulties, and you can obtain ten benefits in this life. (See the three explanations for the achievement text for details ),This is a great benefit. When you practice Buddhism, your goal is to escape from the cycle of reincarnation and escape from the five evil realms. In addition to the three evil paths (Hell, evil ghosts, beasts )In addition, man and heaven also belong to the five evil realms. It seems that humans are not bad compared to animals, but compared to Pure Land, both humans and celestial beings are evil in this world. Therefore, as long as you gain faith, Amitabha’s original vows and light power will cut off the cause and effect of your reincarnation. You will move from the causal track of the three realms and six realms to the causal track of Dharmazang Bodhisattva’s original vows, and the Buddha’s is yours. But yours is not the Buddha's. At this moment, you seem to travel back and forth between the Saha world and the Pure Land, feeling the wonders, and in your faith you can experience the subtleties.

Teaching and proof must depend on each other

Below is a explanation of some phenomena that have emerged in the promotion of Pure Land Buddhism.About ten years ago, people who specialize in promoting faith in the Pure Land Buddhism were called the original vow method. They said that they would be reborn without death, which attracted many people to oppose it.On the one hand, although some promoters have faith and experience in preaching the Dharma, they do not understand the doctrine and are not perfect in their preaching, and their fame and fortune are strong and their personality is inaccurate, resulting in the so-called great faith and little wisdom, and they cannot win the trust of others. On the other hand, those who listen to the Dharma have a lot of misunderstandings about "other power" and have few real intentions, and few people who can believe it.These phenomena can easily cause confusion and retreat for those who want to study Pure Land. However, if you have real intentions, the current Pure Land teaching has a good fate to learn, and real benefits are worth looking forward to.

Therefore, even if you achieve faith through "hearing his name", you still have to understand "rebirth in one's mind" based on the sutra, and you cannot explain it at will based on experience.Buddhism has teachings and proofs, and the two are mutually dependent and cannot be biased.Gaining faith is proof, proof is experience, experience is "things", Buddhist scriptures are teachings, and truths are the same, and facts are the same.By chanting the Buddha's name, you gain faith and feel your decision to be reborn. This is your experience. But you must also distinguish between true and falsehood of your faith and experience, just like Zen enlightenment requires identification. One reason why one cannot do it by one's own efforts is the "inverted good fruit". Some people once mistakenly believe that it is the first fruit of attaining the first meditation.Meditation will cause regression, but the result will not be, because we did not recognize the fruit of enlightenment, and later we regarded the mistake of regression in the first meditation as the regression in the first fruit of regression. Therefore, Zen Buddhism pays special attention to inheritance, and true enlightenment needs a teacher to prove it to you.The inheritance of Pure Land Buddhism is also very important, but the faith of Pure Land Buddhism is different from the enlightenment of Zen Buddhism. The inheritance of Pure Land Buddhism is explained by the sutra, mainly by the achievement text to show faith.

The real benefit Amitabha Buddha wants to give you

Master Shandao of the Tang Dynasty in China determined the ancient and modern times according to the "Avatamsaka Sutra", opened up the important doors of Pure Land, and introduced the great wishes. The focus of his persuasion is to use action to capture faith. Master Faran inherited Master Shandao and established the Pure Land Sect. He transformed himself into others and also used action to capture faith.Until Faran’s disciple Master Qinluan edited the “Teachings and Faith and Verification”, the master followed the “Buddha’s Sutra of Amitabha” and achieved faith. (Lifetime career success )Only as a proof of fruit can it be truly revealed.Until now, the Pure Land Buddhism focuses on rebirth at the end of life, and the benefits of karma in life are little known.I don’t know the karma of my life, and of course I will not pursue it anymore. Practicing Pure Land will lead to the pursuit of good death at the end of my life, which is very far from reality. How many people in the world can really see through, let go and chant Buddha's name, and wait for death? We should know that rebirth at the end of our lives is not the most real benefit of the Pure Land teaching. What Amitabha Buddha really wants to give us is the faith that will be accomplished throughout our lives. However, even in the era of Master Yin Guang, the Chinese Pure Land Buddhism mainly persuaded him to be reborn at the end of his life. Although he also talked about other power, he did not mention "the karma of life is achieved."Although he has many believers and many responses, since it is not the most real benefit of Pure Land Buddhism, it is often considered to be a matter of foolish men and women. Master Taixu once criticized this.In the history of the development of Chinese Buddhism, most of the time, with Zen as the core, and Pure Land Buddhism has been in an auxiliary position for a long time. One of the reasons is that the real interests have not been developed.Everyone likes Zen Buddhism. The pursuit of enlightenment is in the present and can gain a great deal of wisdom. Now that you come to study Pure Land Buddhism, you must clearly know the goal and direction. "The success of your life karma" is your true pursuit, and you must give up your death to be reborn.

Faith and karma are at the same time

When you practice the Pure Land, you gain faith is called karma. The completion of karma is the opposite of the merits that you will realize in the Pure Land.As mentioned earlier, if you kill your father and mother with disgust, the karma of hell will be accomplished now, but your hell will be rewarded until you sacrifice yourself."It is also possible to be reborn." This is true. In this life, karma will be achieved through faith and accumulating the right concentration according to the Buddha's power. However, the merits of the Pure Land must be reborn in the Pure Land before they can be fully revealed."All you can be reborn" means that when your faith is accomplished, you have already been reborn and are already in the Pure Land, but you have not revealed the merits of the Pure Land. Therefore, this kind of rebirth is called the inconceivable rebirth of the land of rebirth. The land of rebirth is the Tathagata of the ten directions, and the Saha world we are in is also included in it."Faith and joy, even a thought", you will achieve karma at the moment of rebirth, and you will not need to wait for death or expect Amitabha Buddha to come to guide you at the moment of death.

Faith is the true cause of great nirvana

The Buddha's power and faith make you "can be reborn and stay without regression", which is also called the true cause of retribution land, which is the true cause of becoming a Buddha and achieving great nirvana."The original vow and name are correct and settled karma", when you gain faith by hearing the name, it is not only a decision to be reborn, but also a decision to become a Buddha.Bodhisattva Nagarjuna said that "instant entry will surely enter," and will surely become a Buddha. "instant" means that you will live in the right concentration of concentration no matter the next day or at the same time. The moment when faith is obtained is "faith is joyful, and even a thought, one can be reborn."Life in the Saha world ends from this, and the rebirth of the Pure Land begins from this. This is a very special benefit and incredible. The karma of faith attaining the fruit of life has not been known much in the past, and I am not very clear about the teachings and the Dharma, nor do I know how to pursue it.Now that the real interests of the name have been revealed, if you want to follow the advice of Sakyamuni Buddha, make a true wish, and take advantage of the light of Amitabha Buddha to show your faith, you will be very happy!Namo Amitabha!
