Explain the mission
1. Passing on the torch
He has always been respected as the sowinger of human Buddhism and the leader of human Buddhism, and enjoys the "first person since Xuanzang" 1, "the greatest thinker of the Han people who came to Taiwan to cultivate four hundred years" 2, and "The Light of World Buddhism" 3 and other "Treasures of Buddha Kingdom" 4 ──Tutor Yin passed away at 10:07 am on June 4th this year!From a secular perspective, the teacher’s body is a farewell to us;But from the perspective of Buddhism, his virtuous and moral character, as well as the Bodhisattva spirit of forgetting oneself, responsibilities and long-term protection, and protecting the Dharma, will remain in the world forever.As long as the four groups of disciples practice according to the law and practice it in turn, it means that the teacher's Dharma body is always there and never destroyed!
「May I dedicate myself to the sound of enlightenment in this suffering world for life!”5 This is the merciful commitment made by the teacher to himself and us.I pray that in the near future, I can follow the mentor with those who share the same wishes and walks, and jointly build this world and form a Pure Land!
2. Endless gratitude
I am so grateful that I can obtain a human body in this life, and be close to good teachers and listen to the Dharma!Not only do we feel grateful for the kindness of parents’ care, the kindness of mutual assistance to all living beings, the kindness of teachers’ education, but also the great kindness of the Three Jewels and good men inspiring the Dharma body, wisdom and life.In the endless gratitude, I am especially grateful to the deep kindness that Master Yin has received with compassion.In the first ten years of studying Buddhism, most of them were secretly exploring themselves. Just when they were trapped in traditional Buddhist thoughts and systems and could not find a way out for their thoughts, fortunately, by indirectly reading the works of the instructor and even directly advising them to seek benefits, they finally found the "source of living water" of thoughts and actions.
From then on, not only did my own doubts be fully explained, but the sect gaps disappeared, but he also got out of the traditional rude of talking about mystery and wonder, and got rid of the confusion of other places in the next life;Then I firmly believe that realizing the "Pure Land of the World" is for the Buddha's original intention, and I vow to pursue "Human Buddhism" for the rest of my life ──At this time, here, here, and this person's care and purification.All of this is inspired by the teacher’s deep grace, so I feel the deepest gratitude to the teacher!
3. Forget your body for the Dharma
In the 58th year of the Republic of China, at the invitation of the students of the Zhongdao Club of Normal University, they all came to repay their kindness to pay homage to their mentors.At that time, the instructor had not recovered from his illness, but he still gave me compassionate teachings: from the entry-level reading of the scriptures to the in-depth level of one's own quotation, and he was well-known to him;Be kind and tempted, as usual;After more than an hour of earnest demonstration, it was really like a revelation and it was so gratifying!
In the 60th year of the Republic of China, with Yan Shangwen, who is now the director of the History Department of Chung-Cheng University, and Lin Jinhui, who has retired from the director of the Cultural and Cultural Resources Center of the Cultural and Construction Association, these two college youth went to visit their mentors.At that time, the instructor had just experienced two major operations and was very weak, so the waiter, Master Mingsheng, specifically reminded him: the conversation can only be at most fifteen minutes.But when the teacher talks about Buddhism, he seems to be full of energy and does not even have a trace of illness;Instead, we are reminded repeatedly: "When studying Buddhist books, we must do it with the spirit and attitude of faith;If you only consider it as knowledge or accumulation of information, it will not help the body, mind and life at all!"
The tutor also explained to us how to use two methods to test whether the scholar’s words and deeds are in line with Buddhism: (one )Is what is said consistent with the fundamental principles of Buddhism? (two )What is the behavioral performance?"If you just talk about practice or encourage people to do good deeds, ordinary religions will do it too!If Buddhism is established with supernatural powers, and heretics also have supernatural powers, then Buddhism is the same as heretics!People today have a little practice, and they talk about supernatural powers in their past lives and later generations. This is not the true Buddhist teachings.Judging from the historical facts of the Buddha's enlightenment and preaching, the Buddha and World Honored One are not like that!Although the Buddha's three karmas of body, speech and mind can be taught, the focus of Buddhism is the wheel of teachings. ──Use words to guide you, inspire you, and make you move forward."
This kind of plain but unhappy demonstration is not only a correct view but also a cooler in the heat of the heat!Between these questions and answers, nearly two hours have passed, which makes the waiter feel uneasy, but it also makes me unforgettable!
In fact, I have a deep understanding of the old man’s mood: it is still unknown whether he can live a long life. Since someone is coming to ask for the Dharma, he is of course teaching everything he knows and gives in all his words.This spirit and compassionate wish to forget one's body for the Dharma are the examples for my Buddhist disciples to imitate!
In the 68th year of the Republic of China, I went to Huiri Lecture Hall for some reason. Before leaving, I was happy to meet the tutor, so I seized the opportunity and asked for my doubts.Because I was about to go out, I stood up with the mentor and talked.I am asking for help, but the instructor still explains in detail and explains carefully;I was moved, and I was also focused and listened with all my heart!
I don’t know how long it took, but I vaguely felt that there were more and more people listening. When I looked back, I realized that there were already a circle of people around me.It turned out that the sound of the dining board has been knocked for half an hour!Everyone was curious about what the problem was, which made the always on-time mentor unaware of it and focused so much that he didn't even hear the sound of knocking on the board.So I once again understood the compassion of the teacher for the Dharma and for all living beings, as well as the profound meaning of the ancients "forgeting food and sleeping day and night".
4. Inheriting the public in a simple way
In the 84th year of the Republic of China, Mr. Lin Jinhui, who had served in the Cultural and Cultural Association at that time, was arranged to accompany people from the art and literature circles. ──Liang Hualun (Secretary of the Cultural and Cultural Resources Center of the Cultural and Construction Association )、Zhao Donghui (Deputy Director of Xu Beihong Memorial Hall, Beijing, China )、He Hengxiong (President of the National Taiwan University of Arts )、Ye Shaoguo (Professor Tan University )、Li Wenbin, Ke Yaodong, Cheng Xueya, Su Xianlong, Peng Qionghua (painter )、Li Gumo (painter )Couple, Ke Xijie (Photographer )A group of thirteen people went to Yongguang Villa to visit the tutor. The old man's easy and friendly relationship made everyone's invitation as warm as a night talk around the fire.
After everyone left, Mr. Lin turned back because he forgot to take the things.When he entered the room, he saw the mentor who was resting with his eyes closed, and he seemed so tired;But when the instructor heard the footsteps and opened his eyes and saw him, it seemed like a force quickly spreading on his face, and instantly returned to his previous spirit.Mr. Lin Jinhui's heart moved: It turns out that the old man is talking to everyone with his spirit.Seeing that he did not show any tired face from beginning to end, it was actually because he couldn't bear to feel psychologically burdened!
In the 87th year, he led the Ci'en Dharma Protectors Association of Miaoxin Temple to visit the instructor at Huayu Jingshe in Taichung.That time, what I remembered was that the old man still had a childlike heart, he pulled up his wrinkled skin with his hands, and said with a smile: "The old age and illness are useless!"It made everyone laugh!"I am an old friend of mine for many years. I have been together for decades and don't feel anything wrong with it!"This fully demonstrates the mentor's attitude towards how sick he has been in his life.At the end, the old man also mercifully taught everyone: "You must have correct faith, correct view, and correct practice!Do your duty and responsibilities well and eliminate bad habits is the general way to learn Buddhism."
Another time, I went to Huayu Jingshu with students from the "Miaoxin Human Buddhist Scholar" and members of the Southern "Miaoyun Ji" reading club to pay homage to the instructor.On that day, the teacher told us: "To study Buddhism, we must cultivate the spirit of reviewing the past and learning the new, and to be able to enjoy Buddhism.Because Buddhism is a religion, religion cannot be separated from practice: it always makes us reduce our worries, increase our compassion, and make us enthusiastic and enthusiastic about Buddhism to protect the holy teachings;And I feel that sentient beings are very distressed, how should they be saved...Use Buddhism to guide and warn yourself in this way."
He also said: "Those who truly study Buddhism must be able to understand other people's sufferings, use Buddhism to inspire themselves, and should also change their temperament in Buddhism from time to time.I have always lost my temper, but my temper gradually decreases;Those who have always been lazy and unwilling to do things will gradually become willing to make up their minds, which at least has some benefits.If you don’t even have faith and benefit from Buddhism, what else can you teach others to gain faith?If you become more and more troublesome when you learn, or if you feel that it is amazing and look down on others, then just like studying worldly knowledge, it becomes non-Buddhist!"
From the mentor's teachings to believers, we can see that he never has too much righteousness, but rather focuses on the practice of Buddhism in daily life.The simple and easy things he brought in and treated the crowd show that he was extraordinary in plainness and plainness, which is truly worthy of our respect, praise and imitation!
5. In-depth interview
On June 9, 1985, he accompanied Mr. Qiu Minjie, who was writing a doctoral thesis "Research on Yinshun Buddhist Thoughts", to Huayu Jingshu for an in-depth visit to the instructor.During this period, I specially selected the three departments of the tutor (Argument )Let’s ask the Zen masters who are truly and permanently and ideally minded to enlighten them.The instructor said in a slight way, "True enlightenment." (See the Tao )，That is to break what I see;If you don’t realize it means you don’t realize it, and once you realize it means you will be forever enlightenment!So how many times did you realize it? How many times did you realize it?That's a layman!Most of the so-called "enlightenment" of ordinary Zen spectators are just experiencing it;If you truly and completely break your opinion, you must break it again (Realize again )，How could there be another real thing (I )Where does the heart exist?"The instructor just outlines the main points and makes people feel refreshed and suddenly enlightened!
On October 17, 1987, Mr. Qiu Minjie visited his mentor again. He really didn't expect that the tutor, who was older than 93, had compassionately read the entire paper. He also encouraged the author to study Buddhism with a faithful heart, which would be beneficial to oneself and others, body and mind.

It is no wonder that the tutor is respected as a "seeder" with such care, encouragement and sincere expectations for future generations.He not only sowed the seeds of the Dharma for Taiwanese Buddhism and even world Buddhism with his works;With his moral character and water of compassion, he diligently irrigated this acre of Dharma field, which makes people sincerely miss and praise this eternal mentor on earth!
6. Shooting
In the 78th year of the Republic of China, because he was alert to the voice of his mentor being weaker and weaker, he started to take pictures of his mentor’s documentary, so as to benefit future generations to read and see his spiritual images and be inspiring!So, he first discussed writing scripts with Mr. Lu Xincang from Taipei's "Imaging Concept Studio", and then started shooting with his mentor Ciyun.During this period, the fate was complicated and the consequences were extremely twists and turns until the eighty-two years ──It took four years to complete the entire film.Later, the article discussed with Master Zhaohui and finally named "The Sowinger of Buddhism on Earth" ──"Teacher Yinshun".The filming and distribution of this video should also be one of the reasons why Tzu Chi loves Taiwan in the future and films "The Biography of Instructor Yin Shun"!
I still remember that the first time I was in Yongguang Villa, the filming work came to an end. When I was about to leave, the instructor leaned on the recliner, held my hand tightly as if he felt something, and said to me kindly: "Study Buddhism and practice, don't be afraid of suffering!Don't be afraid of fewer people!We must value quality rather than weight, and correct faith and correct views are important!One degree counts one, two are a pair..."The teacher's innocence of meditation on the Dharma, which emphasizes quality but not weight, still lingers in my ears, which touched me inexplicably!And for life, he will be regarded as the standard for benefiting the world and saving lives!
On December 9, 1989, Dr. Lei Tongming, who had returned to his mentor in his early years and had moved to the United States, went to Miaoxin Temple with his superior Zeng Jingshan, and explained that he had made a special trip back to his country to visit his mentor.After contacting the attendant Master Mingsheng, he learned that the instructor happened to return to Miaoyun Lanruo, Chiayi. On the 14th, he went to the ceremony with Yan Shangwen, a professor at Chung Zheng University, and a group of 15 people from Kaohsiung believers and photography team.

When talking about the disagreement and meaning of Buddhist thought and the law, someone asked the teacher: "If there were modern technology in the Buddha's world and the real story that the Buddha said could be captured, then there would probably be no more disputes now, right?"Unexpectedly, the instructor immediately said firmly: "There are still dissent, there must be disputes!""Yes, the nature and degree of sentient beings are different, so how can they not have any dissenting views and different meanings?This shows that the instructor is smart, clear and sharp!
7. The last chapter
As a Buddhist researcher, the research results of the supervisor have been deeply recognized and praised by the academic community;But the mentor, he repeatedly revealed in his works that we should pay attention to the religious nature of Buddhism. (Faith and practice )。From the special causes and conditions of getting close to him, from the approachable, plain, and ordinary that he shows, I feel that the tutor is an absolute religious scholar!Although some people call him a scholar, he is a thinker and a theorist;But from his Bodhisattva figure, what I see is indeed a respectable great master who closely combines his words, body and actions with Buddhism!
If Chinese people have always avoided talking about "Nine", go (Ninety-three )In 2019, when the disciples happily congratulated the mentor on their 100th birthday, he clarified openly and truthfully, "No!I'm ninety-nine this year!"Even in his last words, he still solemnly asked his descendants to keep the red tape, not publish obituaries, not spread confessions, and give resignations to wreaths, flower baskets, elegy couplets, and the body was quickly cremated.
What is gratifying is that his disciples and students, in their reluctance, still chose to follow the teacher's orders and make the most perfect resting sign for the life of their mentors!Looking at the teacher's actions throughout his life and his death, he did not exaggerate the magic or show the strangeness of the public. He left an eternal example for the Buddhist world!In addition to praying for the teacher to come back again, he also sincerely hopes that the teacher, his disciples, disciples and students will inherit his old family's legacy ──Care and purify this world, even "the best is beyond the best"!Then, the teacher never left because his Dharma body and wisdom life will be inherited from generation to generation and will be passed down to the human world!
