Throughout history, many people like to uphold the Diamond Sutra.Although the great monks and great masters have been constantly preaching their meanings over history, in different eras, due to different living environments in people, they have also different understandings of the Diamond Sutra.

In fact, the Diamond Sutra mainly talks about the word "image".As long as we understand the core content of the Diamond Sutra and the other parts, and then understand them based on this aspect, it will become much easier.Today, Yunlai will use the three most important sentences of the Diamond Sutra to analyze what "figure" is.As long as you understand the principle of this appearance, you will also understand the Diamond Sutra.

1. If a Bodhisattva has the appearance of self, human, sentient beings, and longevity, he is not a Bodhisattva.

The so-called appearance here actually means that you must have an equal mind when dealing with everything.If a person has a different mind when dealing with sentient beings, he will easily fall into the state of attachment to appearances and thus develop a discriminatory mind.In this way, he will not be able to reach the level of Bodhisattva.If you want to reach the Bodhisattva level, you must make ruthless choices.

What is ruthless choice?It means treating anyone and anything, don’t treat them differently according to their status.For example, Zen Master Huiyuan during the Southern and Northern Dynasties treated Lu Xun who rose up or Emperor Wu of Song, he treated him like a friend who had been away for a long time.In this way, he has achieved the state of formlessness.

2. All appearances are false.If you see all appearances that are not appearances, you will see the Tathagata.

The so-called appearance here is actually the surface phenomenon of things.When dealing with these superficial phenomena, you must have a heart that is not attached to you.Once you are attached to superficial things, you will easily get stuck in superficial things and cannot extricate yourself.

In the past, there was a monk who often preached the scriptures.There is a female donor who comes to listen to his preaching every day.Later, he developed a superficial persistence towards the female donor.The female donor kept telling him about his experience, and the monk gradually felt that the female donor was pitiful.It is gradually difficult to grasp your own heart.Later, I simply returned to secular life and got married to the female donor.Because he had a discrimination about the superficial "appearance" and felt that the female donor was the "female donor", he became obsessed with the appearance, which caused him to fall into the appearance and unable to get out.In this way, he is no different from ordinary people and cannot reach the point of seeing the Tathagata.

3. One combination of the law is indescribable

The so-called appearance here actually refers to a whole of the universe.In the universe, all life is just a part of the universe.But because sentient beings always like to look at each other from their own perspective, they always feel that the other person is the other person and themselves, thus there is a distinction between me and him.Only by removing my ego realm can you see the entire universe clearly.Therefore, the Buddha said, it cannot be said.

Because people always like to take things for themselves.Even if it doesn’t belong to you, I like to bring it to you, and later I feel it’s my own.Then, the corresponding others will lose.In this way, there will be encroachment and gains and losses between people.On the road of cultivation, you must take everything lightly. If you get what should belong to you, it doesn’t matter;Don't force things that do not belong to you.Because everything always has its destination, just as life always has its destination.It is because everything in this universe has its own destination, so there is no need to forcibly disrupt this law.This is called a combination of one form.People who practice must understand the truth of it.

As long as you understand what the appearance is, you will have a very clear concept of choices about things.As long as you follow these rules to understand things, you will not lose correct judgments about things.In other words, as long as our mind does not fall into the reality of form, always maintains no distinction between treating anything, and does not attach to it, the mind will become empty. This is what the Diamond Sutra talks about formlessness.

The ancient saying goes, "One and one hundred ways of understanding". If you understand what the appearance is, and look at the Diamond Sutra, you will understand all things, and its meaning will become clear and thorough.
