The doe is heartbroken
Xu Zhenjun is Xu Xun of the Jin Dynasty, courtesy name Jingzhi, a native of Runan. (now Runan County, Henan Province) lived in Nanchang, and when he was a teenager, he liked martial arts, was good at archery, and loved hunting. One day when he went to the wild, he shot a fawn, the deer mother took pity on her son, desperately rushed to the fawn, licked the scar with her tongue, because the arrow was deep, the fawn did not save her life, and the deer mother wandered and screamed miserably, and also died on the spot.
When the true monarch saw this scene, he was very surprised, and when he cut open the belly of the doe, he found that the tender intestines were broken inch by inch, and the heart of compassion arose spontaneously, so he had to be buried on the spot. It turned out that the doe died tragically because of her son's tragic death, and she was so sad that her heart was broken. Zhenjun Dasheng regretted it, realizing that although humans and animals are different, the heart of loving his son, the same nature, and resenting himself, it was so cruel that it hurt the flesh and blood of heaven and earth. So he broke his bow and arrow, and never showed up hunting again. Later, he was recommended as a filial piety and incorruptible, an official Jingyang county magistrate, felt the chaos of the Jin dynasty, abandoned the lawsuit and returned to seclusion, followed the immortal Wu Meng to receive the Sanqing law, went into the deep mountains to practice, and proved the way of immortality.
Thus, he traveled extensively in the rivers and lakes, using Taoist techniques to eliminate harm for the people. In the early years of Taikang, he ascended to immortality. Because of his frequent miraculous deeds to help the world, the Song emperor posthumously named him Shen Gong Miaoji Zhenjun, also known as Xu Zhenjun, or Xu Jingyang.
The sorrowful ape sheds tears
In the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, the Chu state doctor Yang Youji, archery skills, fast and accurate, outstanding, although the distance is a hundred steps, any willow leaf, can hit a hundred shots. People at the time praised his archery technique as a hundred steps through Yang.
Once he accompanied the King of Chu to hunt in the wild, he met an old monkey on the tree, and the King of Chu ordered Yang Youji to shoot him, and Yang Youji opened his bow to shoot, and the monkey saw it, panicked, and cried like rain.
It turned out that this old monkey's arms were soft and agile, and he could catch ordinary flying arrows, but now in the face of this world-famous marksman, wherever the flying arrows reached, no matter how agile his arms were, he couldn't respond, poor old monkey, and when he was about to die, why didn't he dare to fly and cry sadly?
Become a soup to solve the net
Cheng Tang, the founding ancestor of the Shang Dynasty, was a benevolent and virtuous king, who dealt with people, understood the heart of heaven, and obeyed the will of the people.
One day when I was out in the wilderness, I saw hunters spreading hunting nets on all sides, and prayed to heaven, saying, "All the beasts that come down from the sky, from the earth, or from all directions, are thrown into my nets."
Seeing this scene, Cheng Tang sighed and said: The hunters are not only cruel in their methods of catching in such a way, but also birds and beasts are about to become extinct, violating the virtue of God's good life. Therefore, he ordered the three sides of the hunting net to be removed, leaving only one side, and changed the prayer to say: Those who wish to go to the left, flee quickly to the left, those who wish to go to the right, those who wish to fly up, those who wish not to escape, quickly flee down. Only those who should be destined to die fall into my net.
Guancheng Tang can popularize animals with benevolence, and its great spirit is really worthy of eternal praise and praise, because the people have been accustomed to it for a long time, and it is difficult to quit hunting, so it is advocated to go to three sides, and one of them is still left, and I wish for the death of the dead. Only then did he enter the net, so as to facilitate the education of the world, not to kill people, to reduce sin, good intentions, and indeed a great virtuous king who loves the people and things.
Zichan raised fish
In the Spring and Autumn Period, Zheng Guoxian Dafu, Gongsun Qiao, and Zi Chan. Benevolent, Confucius praised him: he has the legacy of benevolence and virtue, respects his superiors, and is considerate of the people. At that time, the countries were fighting and invading, and Zheng Guo was able to maintain internal stability and people's livelihood comfort, mainly relying on Zichan to assist the government.
Whenever someone gives live fish to Zichan, Zichan never can't bear to enjoy the appetite, and makes the live fish suffer from the pain of being cooked on a cauldron, and always orders people to raise fish and livestock in the pond, seeing the fish swimming in the water, floating and sinking in it, Zichan's heart is at ease, and he can't help but sigh and say: It's right, it's right! It can be seen that Zichan's benevolence and popularization of things are not only for the people and my compatriots, but also to the facts have been expanded to things.
Observing the above deeds, it can be seen that cherishing life and releasing good deeds are not only advocated by Buddhism, but also by Confucian sages and gentlemen.
Shakyamuni Buddha cut meat to feed the eagle
When Shakyamuni Buddha was practicing the Bodhisattva path in the past life, he met a hungry and thin vulture, who was urgently chasing a docile and kind dove, the pigeon was panicked and terrified, and when he saw the Bodhisattva, he threw himself into his arms in panic and took refuge, and the vulture could not be chased, so he couldn't get around, and said to the Bodhisattva with a vicious look: In order to save the life of the pigeon, did you want me to starve to death? The Bodhisattva asked the eagle: What food do you need? The eagle replied: I want to eat meat. The Bodhisattva said nothing, and cut off the flesh from his arm to compensate. But the eagle demanded the same weight as the meat of the pigeon. The bodhisattva continued to cut the muscles on his body, but the more he cut it, the lighter it became, until the flesh on his body was about to be cut off, and the weight was not equal to that of a pigeon.
Then he asked the Bodhisattva: Now you should repent, right? The Bodhisattva replied: I have no intention of repentance. In order to make the vulture believe, he went on to say, "If my words are true, let the muscles in my body grow and restore."
As soon as the vow was completed, the muscles on his body really returned to their original state. So the vulture was moved and admired, and immediately returned to the body of the Heavenly Emperor, bowing and admiring the Bodhisattva sincerely and respectfully in the air. It turned out that this vulture was the great deeds of the Heavenly Emperor to test the Bodhisattva's unbearable and unbearable deeds.
The Tiantai Wise Master carved the release pond
During the Sui and Tang dynasties, the third generation ancestor of the Tiantai Sect, the wise master, was named Zhikai, and Emperor Yang of Sui honored him as a wise man. The master once initiated Buddhists, donated money, purchased more than 60 depressions in the Linhai area of Zhejiang, extended to a total of more than 400 miles, dug release ponds, persuaded the world to abstain from killing and releasing animals, and petitioned the imperial court to order the erection of a monument and prohibit fishing, which still existed until the Zhenguan period of the Tang Dynasty.
Since then, many Mingjun monks have also advocated that in the second year of the Qianyuan era of Emperor Suzong of Tang, he issued an edict to the prefectures and counties of the world to set up their own release ponds. In the first year of Emperor Zhenzong of Song's Tianxi era, he also issued an edict to establish a release pond in the world, and Hangzhou West Lake, which was set up during the Song Dynasty, has now become a famous resort. In the Ming Dynasty, the lotus pond master also set up release ponds in the upper and longevity places, and circulated the world with the abstinence from killing and releasing the life. Therefore, since ancient times, there are countless benevolent gentlemen who have admired the virtue and devoted themselves to Tzu Chi's life.
Unfortunately, generations have passed, the advocates have passed away, the situation has changed, and the good law has also been corrupted, and now the fishing fire has been like a star cloth, and the electric fish in the middle of the night float on the water, and there are usually fishing competitions and other activities that harm people's lives, which is really sad!
Master Shou redeemed the scale insect and was saved
Master Yongming of the Song Dynasty, named Yanshou, is the sixth generation ancestor of the Lotus Sect. When Qian Wenmu, the king of Wuyue, was stationed in Hangzhou, the master was a treasury official in Yuhang County and often embezzled treasury money to buy fish and shrimp and other aquariums to release. Therefore, he committed the crime of guarding and stealing and should be sentenced to death in accordance with the law.
King Wu Yue believed in Buddhism and knew that he had embezzled treasury money and was releasing animals. Therefore, he ordered the execution officer to pay attention to his words and appearance when he was about to be executed, and come to report. The master was at the execution ground, and there was no worried expression on his face, everyone thought it was very strange, the master said: I used the treasury money without selfishness, bought all the things and released them, and now that I am dead, I will be born in the Western Pure Land, isn't it a great pleasure? When the King of Wu Yue heard his words, he pardoned his sins. Since then, the master has become a monk, diligently practiced meditation, worshipped Buddha and repented, and gained unhindered eloquence.
After the master nirvana, a monk in Fuzhou fell ill, and his consciousness went into the underworld, and he saw a monk statue on the left side of the main hall of the King of Hell, and the King of Hell often came out to worship respectfully. A certain monk felt strange, and the chief official replied: The King of Hell worships Zen Master Yongming Shou, who practiced diligently when he was alive, and now he has been reborn in the Western Pure World.
The novice saved the ants and lived long
When the Buddha was alive, there was a monk who had attained the fruit of the Tao and obtained six supernatural powers, knowing that the little novice beside him would die in seven days. Therefore, he ordered the novice to go home to visit his mother and told him that the purpose of coming back in eight days was to let him die at home.
The little novice spent eight days at home and returned to his master, and the monk found it strange, so he went into meditation to observe. It turned out that on the way home, the novice saw that the ant nest was immersed in water, and tens of millions of ants were trapped in the water and were about to drown. From this, merit can turn short life into long life. Later, the novice lived to be eighty years old, and proved the Arhat fruit, forever free from the suffering of the six reincarnations.
Mao Bao released the turtle to avoid drowning
When Mao Bao of the Jin Dynasty was not yet famous, he once met a fisherman on the way? Bringing a big white turtle for sale, Mao Bao felt pity, bought it, and released it into the river.
Later, Mao Bao became a general and guarded Zhucheng. The enemy general Shi Jilong led tens of thousands of troops and launched a large-scale siege, Mao Bao led his troops to defeat the battle, and 6,000 soldiers fled one after another, some of whom threw themselves into the river, all drowned, but when Mao Bao put on his armor and threw himself into the river, he seemed to feel that he had fallen on a large rock, and there was something in the water to support him to walk, so as not to drown. When I waited to reach the other side, I took a closer look and found that it was actually the big white turtle that had been released before. The so-called karma follows the shadow, and the white turtle repays the favor, which is the manifestation of life.
People value their lives. Things also love their lives. Release is in accordance with the will of heaven. Release the living in accordance with the Buddha's order.
