Master Xuanhua: You must know the rules of offering to Buddha in accordance with the Dharma

Master Xuanhua 2024-07-03

There must be rules for offering to the Three Jewels

  Master Xuanhua’s compassionate teachings:

Do not eat food first before giving it to the monk.

Therefore, lay people eat in the temple, they must wait until they have offered sacrifices to the Buddha and the monks come to eat, so that they can eat together. You cannot eat before the monks eat it, this is not possible. This is not just about offering to Buddha, but about offering to the Three Jewels.

So in a temple or a Buddhist temple, no matter what you do, you must first offer to the Buddha.Especially on the birth of the Buddha, you must first make some good vegetarian dishes to offer to the Buddha. Only after offering to the Buddha can people eat it.

In China, some offer to Buddhas with three bowls of rice, placed in the middle of the Buddha, and placed in a straight and neat way, and beautiful; they are not casually placed on one side, just sloppy. Not only is the case with food, but also with fruits.

Nothing can be placed in the place where the offerings are placed in front of the Buddha, which shows respect. If you put things casually, it means disrespect for the Buddha.

Why?

For example, if you put a mess in front of a person, he will be unhappy. If this person is ungrateful and careless, like a group of pigs and dogs, it doesn't matter. If a clean and neat person is, he will be unhappy if you put some mess in front of him.

Especially the Buddha is the most pure person, so if you put it in a mess in front of the Buddha, it is wrong. In front of the Buddha, you can only place fruits or vegetables for offerings to the Buddha, and you cannot place any other things.

In addition to using three bowls of rice to offer to Buddha, some use five bowls, some use seven bowls, or nine bowls, and some use a lot of things.

Especially during the vegetarian heaven, the tables in front of the Buddha were filled with them, and the vegetarian dishes were completely used to offer the Buddha, and the bowl after bowl were arranged neatly. It is not just a big thing to put it on the table, or it is just put it on the table after buying a biscuit, it is not about offering sacrifices to the Buddha, it is like insulting the Buddha.

When offering something in front of the Buddha, you must open it; just wrap it in paper and put it there! We should all know the above questions.

If you offer something in front of the Buddha, if you don’t open it, just sway it there. It is an impolite act.Even if you give people food, you can't just say, "Eat!" People won't know how to eat either. There is an allusion in China that "a gentleman does not eat food that comes to give him a pity". It seems that when a beggar gives him food, he shouts disdainfully: "Hey! Eat!" He will not come to eat, which is called "a pity that comes to give food that comes to give a pity", let alone offering sacrifices to the Buddha? He doesn't even open it if he is placed there.

I've seen it many times, but I don't have so much time to talk about these issues. Now that Buddhism has been passed down to the West, you must know the superficial rituals.

The bowls offered must be placed in a proper manner, and they must not be placed in a random manner. The fruits and vases should also be placed in a proper manner. It’s like a vase, you should place it in this place, and you should place it in that place, it will not look good and it will fall apart.

Everything needs to be ruled. Some people say so many rules, how can you do it? If you can't do it, then you don't want it.Practice。To practice, you must follow the law everywhere and follow the rules everywhere.

When it comes to dedication, you should respectfully. I remember that there was a time when I preached offerings last year. Everyone knelt there and offered things to the Buddha. The vegetarian dishes were placed in a plate or bowl. I gave them to you and you gave them to me. In this way, they all placed these offerings in front of the Buddha.

In the temple, when preaching offerings, everyone carefully used many vegetarian dishes to offer to the Buddha. There were dozens of offerings, all of which were different. These many offerings were placed in four square plates, allowing everyone to pass on offerings to each other.

Some use rosary to offer to Buddha.

Some use clothes to offer sacrifices to Buddha.

You can offer anything to the Buddha.

But they must be new and good; they must not offer to Buddha something that is not needed, bad, or bad.

It seems that someone bought some coriander to offer to the Three Jewels, but he kept some tender and good ones first, and gave some old ones that could not be bitten to me, indicating that he had offered it. In fact, this was not at all.Meritof.

Therefore, when you give to the Buddhist monks, you must be diligent, pay attention and careful to make these vegetarian dishes.

I don’t usually have time to talk about these rules for offering to Buddha, so I just want to see if you are stupid or notwisdom

If a wise person is not taught; I have never taught him, but I can tell at a glance.A foolish person, even if you teach him, he will not remember it.

Therefore, everything, at all times, and in all places shows whether this person is wise or not.
